Phlebotomy technicians are essential team members at hospitals, blood donor centers, mobile phlebotomy solutions, and diagnostic laboratories. They are responsible for the following duties:

• Drawing blood from patients

• Explaining blood-drawing procedure to patients and answer questions

• Evaluating patients’ ability to withstand procedure

• Performing basic point of care testing such as blood glucose levels

• Preparing blood, urine, and other specimens for testing

• Verifying patient or donor identity

• Maintaining and cleaning medical equipment such as needles, test tubes, and blood vials

​Phlebotomy Technician Certification Process

Step 1: Register and receive immediate access to your online training, study materials, unlimited practice exams, and up to three certification exam attempts.

Step 2: Complete your externship through our placement assistance or gain employment and fulfill your externship requirements on the job.

Step 3: Study at your own pace from home with our easy-to-use online learning platform. Unlimited practice exams help build your confidence and prepare you for certification success.

Taking the exam

You may take the certification exam at any time, and you have a total of 3 attempts to pass the CPT exam without any retake fees.

Each time you take a practice exam or the certification exam, you will be provided with a domain proficiency report that will show you the areas of the study materials you need to focus on to improve your score.

Upon completion of your national certification exam, your results will be provided to you within 1 hour.​

Immediate proof of certification

When you pass the certification exam, your national certification is instantly submitted to the national registry. A digital copy of your certification is provided by email and will be forever stored.
